On 3rd September 2006 Microsoft had released another milestone build of the next version of Windows Vista - Build 5600 RC1 on Microsoft Connect for Beta Testers
Build 5600 RC1 will soon be made available to all MSDN members and all Customer Preview Programmes (CPP) members.
Despite my previous bashing on how unstable and slow Vista was, the RC1 and the pre-RC1 Build 5536 was stable and solid. Though I still encountered the same compatibilty problem as the Pre RC1 Build 5636 there were certainly some improvments (e.g. AVGFree Anti Virus software does work on RC1).
I can confortably say that I can now actually use Vista as my primary OS. Of course if you are going to download Vista from Microsoft under the CPP may I remind you to do one important tweak.
Vista introduced something called Hybrid Sleep and is ...

On 25th August 2006 Microsoft Connect relased Windows Vista Build 5536 Pre-RC1 to testers for testing. Build 5536 is x86 only build so no x64 support.
I immediately downloaded and installed 5536 on my dedicated Vista test partition. So far for once Vista is quite stable and is running quite quickly on my PC powered by my year old Athlon X2 4400+. Performance wise it is a major improvement over previous builds.
BUT...... Microsoft had cheated this time...... During my normal software compatibility test none of the antivirus software will work on 5536. The software I tested are: McAfee Anti Virus Enterprise 8.0i, Kaspersky Anti Virus 6.0.3, AVGFree 7.1, Awi ...

Games Cheaters ATTENTION! Even if you have resolved all your hardware compatibilities issues with 64 bit Windows platform (XP or Vista) you may want to think again before you move to x64.
At this moment none of the Game Trainers will work under x64 Windows. This is because all 32-bit applications will run under WOW64 (Windows32 On Windows64 subsystem). Each 32-bit applications will run in their self contained WOW64 layer thus making all Game Trainers unable to modifiy the running game's memory.

About 4 years ago I bought a Samsung ML-4500 Laser Printer. It was economical and working perfectly even today.
Last year I tried Microsoft Windows 64 bit Edition but no 64-bit driver was provided by Microsoft or Samsung for my old printer. Furthermore, the printer was not compatible with any "standard" printer language such as PostScript, PCL5 or PCL6 instead the printer uses SmartGDI which only used by Samsung and by one other Lexmarks printer. So I returned to Windows XP 32-bit.
In May I got my MacBook Pro and guess what? No printer driver for my Samsung..... Therefore, Ieft with an option to retire a perfectly working printer or not printing from my Mac at all.
A few days ago I discovered a SmartGDI driver for Linux
