Microsoft Windows Vienna: Successor to Windows Vista
Tony Chan's Blog By Tony Chan on Tue, 20 Feb 2007 03:49:16 GMT

Microsoft only released the latest version of Windows (Windows Vista) to consumers 2 weeks ago. Uncle Bill's company is already gearing for the next version of Windows - Microsoft Windows "Vienna" (formerly Blackcomb). Allow me to brief you what is coming in "Vienna" which I am very excited about.

Focus

Vienna is targeted directly at revolutionizing the way users of the product interact with their PCs. For instance, the "Start" philosophy, introduced in Windows 95, may be replaced by the "new interface" which was said in 1999 to be scheduled for "Vienna" (befo ...

What Type of Person Am I?
Tony Chan's Blog By Tony Chan on Sat, 17 Feb 2007 02:03:01 GMT
I learned myself while I was in Hong Kong last month. The method is called Enneagram

The Enneagram in more recent years has mostly come to prominence because of its use with what is often called the Enneagram of Personality (九型人格). In Chinese: 九型人格是一種性格分類,基本上把人的性格分成九類。

這九類﹙分三大組﹚是︰

感情主導(Feeling Centre)

心部中心,感情主導。

    * 第二型助人者(The Helper)、全愛型、助人型、 ...

iMac G3 - The All In One computer That Started the Fashion of Colour
Tony Chan's Blog By Tony Chan on Fri, 10 Nov 2006 10:50:28 GMT

Apple announced the iMac on 7 May 1998, and started shipping the iMac on 15 August 1998. The launch of the iMac was a landmark event for its time, and had a massive impact on both the company and the computer industry. At the time, Apple was unique in producing all-in-one desktop computers, in which the CPU and the monitor are contained in one enclosure. Many other PC manufacturers have tried to imitate this, most of which have met with little success. Soon after many PC manufacturers conspicuously added translucent plastics to their existing designs.

Aesthetically, the iMac was drama ...

Windows Vista RC1 5600
Tony Chan's Blog By Tony Chan on Wed, 06 Sep 2006 01:52:40 GMT

On 3rd September 2006 Microsoft had released another milestone build of the next version of Windows Vista - Build 5600 RC1 on Microsoft Connect for Beta Testers

Build 5600 RC1 will soon be made available to all MSDN members and all Customer Preview Programmes (CPP) members.

Despite my previous bashing on how unstable and slow Vista was, the RC1 and the pre-RC1 Build 5536 was stable and solid. Though I still encountered the same compatibilty problem as the Pre RC1 Build 5636 there were certainly some improvments (e.g. AVGFree Anti Virus software does work on RC1).

I can confortably say that I can now actually use Vista as my primary OS. Of course if you are going to download Vista from Microsoft under the CPP may I remind you to do one important tweak.

Vista introduced something called Hybrid Sleep and is ...

Windows Vista Build 5536 Pre RC1 is stable BUT ....
Tony Chan's Blog By Tony Chan on Fri, 25 Aug 2006 22:23:02 GMT

On 25th August 2006 Microsoft Connect relased Windows Vista Build 5536 Pre-RC1 to testers for testing. Build 5536 is x86 only build so no x64 support.

I immediately downloaded and installed 5536 on my dedicated Vista test partition. So far for once Vista is quite stable and is running quite quickly on my PC powered by my year old Athlon X2 4400+. Performance wise it is a major improvement over previous builds.

BUT...... Microsoft had cheated this time...... During my normal software compatibility test none of the antivirus software will work on 5536. The software I tested are: McAfee Anti Virus Enterprise 8.0i, Kaspersky Anti Virus 6.0.3, AVGFree 7.1, Awi ...
